Daniel sighed as he walked into his step-father’s casino. He had no idea what was up with his brother, Cameron, but he had come anyway when called. He nodded at the barkeep, John Sheppard, and made his way over to the bar.

“Ah, Sir Jackson. Always a pleasure. You know, if you’re looking for some real action, there’s a private game starting in about an hour,” the dark haired man said with a nod towards the poker table on the other side of the room.

Daniel shook his head. “I’m actually here to see my brother.”

"Cameron’s on his way?” John asked.

“Yeah, should be here any minute,” Daniel said as he leaned against the bar. He turned to look at the door when John glanced that way and muttered a soft ‘Oh’.

Cameron practically stalked into the room and Daniel sighed again. “Okay. Here I am. Should I brace myself for another shocking revelation about Vala?” he asked his brother sarcastically.

Cameron looked back and forth between John and Daniel, which didn’t do much to alleviate Daniel’s confusion. “Hasn’t John filled you in?” his brother asked.

Daniel stood up and glanced at John, who busied himself wiping down the bar. “About what?”

“Oh, he’s living proof of my dad’s infidelity,” Cameron stated as he practically glared a hole into John’s head.

Daniel just stared at Cameron in shock. “Do you want to start from the beginning?”

“Well, all I know is back when I was on the road with my parents, my dad was off having an affair with Holly Sheppard. She got pregnant. He’s the result.”

Daniel took a moment to let that settle in his brain. After a few seconds, he pointed at John, but his comment was directed at Cameron. “He’s your brother.”

“Well, according to the latest version of events. Which not only makes my dad a liar, it makes him the worst kind of hypocrite,” Cameron stated sourly.

Daniel turned to look at John, who stood there smiling. “So, was this a surprise to you, or did you come to Colorado Springs knowing that you were Frank’s son?”

“Well, it was Holly who claimed that Frank is my father, and she was very convincing. You have to admit, Frank and I are kind of cut from the same cloth, you know. We're kindred spirits, so to speak. And the instant bond we shared was unmistakable,” John told the pair of them.

Daniel turned to Cameron and shook his head. “Well, it sounds like you got blindsided once again.”
“Hmm. What do you mean, once again?” John asked from behind him.

“Well, Cameron didn't know that he had an older brother, that would be me, until he was a teenager,” Daniel explained to the newest member of their screwed up family.

“Ah, you were shocked because you came from the same mother. You know, I'm surprised I didn't see that one coming. I mean Dad lies, he abandons. Why wouldn't he cheat? You know, continue the cycle.”

Daniel shook his head at Cameron’s sour tone and turned to say something about it to Cameron, but smiled when he saw a raven haired beauty walk in the door.

Vala smiled as she walked into the casino and saw Daniel standing there with his brother, Cameron. When she had first come to Colorado Springs, she’d had a bit of fun, pitting them against each other. She had settled for Daniel though, after realizing Cameron was still hung up on his ex-wife Carolyn. It was sweet, in an annoying sort of way. At least Daniel was willing to move past the memory of his late wife, Sha’re and see her instead of a way to get back at his brother and ex.

“You tracked me down,” Daniel said as he walked toward her.

“Wow, that’s some ego you’re carting around there. What makes you think I’m here to see you?” She teased.

“Why else?” he asked her with a smile, ignoring the two men standing behind him.

She laughed and shook her head. “Well, it's a casino. I'm here to gamble. You've seen me play cards. You know I have to practice.”

“So is this just a coincidence?” Daniel asked her as he led her over towards the roulette table for more privacy.

“You finding that hard to believe?” she asked him, spinning the wheel a bit.

“Oh, okay. Maybe I do get a little ahead of myself,” her lover admitted with a sigh.

Ethan chuckled as he brought over a drink to Vala. “No, it's called wishful thinking, man.”

She smiled as Daniel rolled his eyes at the man. “All right, I stand corrected.”

Vala turned to look at John and smirked. “Think he's suffered enough?”

“Yeah, it's time to put him out of his misery,” John told her as he walked back towards the bar.

“You were right the first time. I saw you earlier and I followed you here. So now you know what it feels like to have your own personal stalker,” she asked as she slipped her arms over his shoulder.

“I'm oddly unafraid,” Daniel said softly before he kissed her lightly.

“Looks like you two have taken a quantum leap.”

Vala pulled away from Daniel to stare at Cameron, confused as to why he even cared. “Um, okay, if you're asking if were together, yeah.”

She felt Daniel step behind her, appreciating his solid weight behind her. “And we appreciate your concern, but know what we're doing.”

Vala looked up at Daniel and smiled. “You want to blow this place?”

He nodded at her. “Yeah, let's get out of here.” He looked over at John as they walked towards the door and said, “Be patient. These things take time. Trust me.”

--

Vala blinked several times as her vision was filled with a bright light, then had to rub at them a bit until she could see. She could hear the others arguing around her, but it took a few minutes for the words to actually filter through.

“Are you awake yet?” someone, Daniel it sounded like, asked as he shook her arm.

“Yes,” she said as she sat up slowly. Vala looked around and found Sam and Teal’c looking at her with very amused expressions. Daniel looked exasperated and Cameron appeared to want to strangle her. Again. “What happened?”

“What happened is that next time someone asks us if we want to try their story machine, we don’t let the soap opera addict drive the bus,” Cameron growled as he headed for the door of the room.

Vala looked at Daniel, confused. “I’ll tell you on the way back,” he told her as he helped her off the bed and towards the door.

"And you can tell us how Sheppard got pulled into this," Sam told her, laughing.

Hahaha! Very nice.

I'd watch soap operas with Vala any day.
